Most people who call about personal training in Ocala, FL are not nervous about the work. They are nervous about the unknown. Will I be the most out-of-shape person in the room? Will the trainer push me until I can’t walk tomorrow? Will I get cornered into a contract before I leave?
Fair questions. Here is exactly what happens when you walk into KB Fitness for the first time, so none of it is a surprise.
The short version: your first session costs nothing, carries no obligation, and ends with a written plan you take home whether you train with us or not.
Before You Arrive
Getting on the schedule is simple. Call or text us at (352) 502-9052, or fill out the form on our Get Started page. Tell us your goals, your availability, and how you want to train. A coach will reach out to confirm the details and lock in a time.
What to bring:
- Comfortable clothes you can move in
- Training shoes with a flat, stable sole (running shoes work fine for day one)
- A water bottle. This is Ocala. Even with the AC running, you will want it.
- A list of any medications, past surgeries, or injuries worth mentioning
What not to bring: a plan to “get in shape first.” That is what we are for. Nobody shows up ready, and nobody is expected to.
The studio is at 2506 SE 17th Street, Unit B, with easy parking right out front.
Part One: The Conversation
Your first session starts sitting down, not lifting. Your coach, either Kameron or Avery, will spend real time learning about you before you touch a weight.
Expect questions like:
- What made you reach out now?
- What does success look like six months from today?
- What have you tried before, and what made you stop?
- Any injuries, surgeries, or areas that hurt when you move a certain way?
- How many days a week can you realistically train?
- What does your work schedule, sleep, and stress look like?
This is not small talk. Your answers shape everything that follows. A 35-year-old who wants to drop 20 pounds before a wedding needs a different plan than a 58-year-old who wants to garden without back pain, or a runner training for a fall race who keeps tweaking the same knee.
If you have a history of injury, this is where it matters most. Avery’s background is in physical therapy, and she specializes in injury prevention and long-term movement quality. Kameron has spent the last decade coaching everyone from Olympic-level equestrian athletes to people stepping into a gym for the first time. Between the two of them, there is very little they have not seen.
Part Two: The Movement Assessment
Next, your coach will watch you move. This is not a fitness test, and there is no score to pass. The goal is to see how your body handles the basic patterns every program is built on.
A typical assessment looks at:
- Squat pattern: How your hips, knees, and ankles work together as you sit down and stand up.
- Hinge pattern: How you bend at the hips, which is the foundation for safely picking anything up off the ground.
- Push and pull: Upper body strength and shoulder control, often with light bands or bodyweight.
- Balance and stability: Single-leg control, core engagement, and how steady you are under light demand.
- Mobility: Where you are tight, where you compensate, and what range of motion you have to work with.
Your coach is looking for the things you cannot see yourself. A knee that drifts inward. A lower back that rounds early. One side that works harder than the other. These details tell us where to start, what to protect, and what to prioritize.
None of this is meant to embarrass you. Most people have a few limitations. That is normal, and it is exactly why a plan built for you beats a generic program from an app.
Part Three: A Real Taste of Training
Once your coach understands how you move, you will go through a short training sample. This is your chance to feel what coaching at KB Fitness is actually like.
It will not be a beatdown. A good first session should leave you feeling capable, not wrecked. Your coach will pick a handful of exercises matched to your assessment, teach you how to do them well, and adjust in real time based on how your body responds.
You will hear a lot of cues. “Push the floor away.” “Keep your ribs down.” “Slow it down on the way back.” That feedback is the whole point of working with a coach instead of training alone. Correct form from day one is what keeps you training on day 100.
If you are sore the next day, it should be the mild, “I did something new” kind. Not the “I can’t sit down” kind.
Part Four: Your Written Plan
Before you leave, you get a written plan. This is the part most people do not expect.
Your plan lays out:
- Your primary goals, in plain language
- What we observed in your assessment and what to focus on first
- A recommended training frequency based on your schedule
- The approach we would take to get you from where you are to where you want to be
- Simple habits to start on outside the studio
It is yours to keep. If you decide to train with us, it becomes the starting blueprint for your program. If you decide KB Fitness is not the right fit, you still walk out with a clearer picture of where you stand and what to do next than you had when you walked in.
What It Costs: Nothing
Your first session is free. There is no contract waiting for you at the end and no pressure to commit on the spot.
We do it this way because we would rather earn your trust than talk you into something. If the coaching, the environment, and the plan make sense for you, the decision is easy. If they do not, we would rather you know that before spending a dollar.
When you are ready, your coach will walk you through the training options that fit your goals and budget: one-on-one personal training, small group training, or online coaching. You choose.
Common Questions We Hear Before a First Session
“I’m really out of shape. Should I wait?”
No. Starting where you are is the only way to start. Your plan is built around your current fitness, not some standard you have to meet first.
“I have an old injury. Is training safe for me?”
In most cases, yes, and the right training often helps. Tell your coach everything up front. If something needs medical clearance or a referral first, we will tell you.
“I’m over 50 and have never lifted weights.”
You are in good company. Strength training is one of the best things you can do at any age, and we coach plenty of people starting later in life.
“Will I be training around a bunch of people watching me?”
Personal training is one-on-one. Your coach’s attention is on you, and the environment is built to be welcoming, not intimidating.
